If you've ever had a sinus infection, you know that they're no fun.  

Headache, pressure, pain behind your eyes, runny/stuffy nose, fever, and fatigue, are just a few of the symptoms you feel when you have a sinus infection.

I had the flu earlier this week and it started turning into a head cold/sinus infection.  

I used to run to the doctor for a round of antibiotics whenever I felt one coming on, until I discovered a wonderful home remedy that is just as effective.

My home remedy is to do a neti pot with saline and grapefruit seed extract.

Grape fruit seed extract is a natural antibiotic and has anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties. 

If you google grapefruit seed extract benefits online you'll find numerous ways you can use it and why it's beneficial.  In fact, that just gave me an idea for my next article... but for now, back to my neti pot.

&lt;b&gt;Here's what you need:&lt;/b&gt;

* Large mug&lt;br&gt;          
* Neti pot&lt;br&gt;
* 1-2 cups distilled water&lt;br&gt;
* 1-2 saline packets&lt;br&gt;
* Grapefruit seed extract&lt;br&gt;

&lt;b&gt;Instructions:&lt;/b&gt;

1. Fill a large mug with distilled water and microwave for 1-2 min. The water should be warm (not too hot, not too cold). 

2. Add 1 to 2 packets of sea salt and 5 to 7 drops of grapefruit seed extract. Stir with spoon to dissolve thoroughly.

3. Lean your head forward over a sink, bending your neck down slightly with your eyes looking downwards.

4.Gently place the spout of the neti pot inside your right nostril, forming a seal to avoid any outer leakage.

5. Open your mouth slightly. Breathe continuously through your open mouth during this sinus cleansing procedure. This allows a necessary air passageway so that the water will not drain from behind your nose into your mouth.

6. Tilt your head sideways, so that your right nostril is directly above your left nostril. Tip the neti pot, allowing the water solution to pour into your right nostril. Within a few seconds the water will naturally drain from your left nostril into the sink.

7. After the net pot is empty, remove the spout from your right nostril, and exhale through both nostrils. Gently blow your nose into a tissue.

8. Repeat steps 1 through 7 for your left nostril.</description>

Sometimes it's brought on by good 'ol pms, sometimes it can be sparked by a flip comment that someone said that struck a nerve of insecurity with me. 

Either way, I find myself going through a mini bout of sadness and feeling not like my usual self.

Like everyone else on the planet, it's hard for me to feel happy, energetic and positive when I'm feeling down.  The last thing I want to do is embrace my emotions, who wants to embrace feeling sad?

But I know from experience that everything is energy, including my emotional state, and by turning into the energy I can release it.

There is a saying often touted by metaphysicalists, that 'what you resist, persists,&quot; meaning, what you try to ignore, comes back to haunt you.  So it's better to face what you're feeling than hide from it.

So how do you do this, you ask?  You begin by exploring what you are feeling.  I'll lend my current state of emotions as an example.  

I am pmsing right now, so I'm already emotional, but I've been mulling over a couple of things lately, one by someone I work with and one by a family member.  Both have said/done things that have hurt my feelings and have brought up some 'stuff' for me.  

Rather than ignore what I'm feeling, I'm trying to understand what the emotions are telling me.  I know this is easier said than done, but trust me, it's worth doing.

As I explore my emotions, I ask myself what am I afraid of? Because all hurt and anger stem from some kind of fear or wounding from our formative years.  

Once I've been able to explore the source of my emotion distress, I allow myself to feel it and ask what message it has for me? Is this an old limiting belief that no longer serves me? Is it time to let it go?  The answer is usually yes.  The reason why I bring this up, is because what we feel and perceive has to do with us and not the world around us.  We filter our own reality.

Once I've completed this step, I allow myself to open my heart and feel compassion and love in my heart.

The energy of love neutralizes the negative emotions that one feels. No surprise, I usually feel better :)</description>
